What Is the Function of This Revised LogMAR Chart?
The logMAR test type, also known as the ETDRS test type, functions to allow eyecare specialists to assess a patient's clarity of vision, or visual acuity, using lines of Sloan optotype which decrease in size further down the page. This particular test is designed to enable near-distance visual acuity assessment, or how well they can see shapes / objects approximately 2.5 metres away from them.
What Does the Chart Being Revised Mean?
For the revised chart, there is a change in the difficulty score for each of the Sloan letters. These revised scores stem from the visual acuity examinations of 7420 eyes during the ETDRS study in which this specific type of logMAR chart was developed.
These revisions also involved the arrangement of the letters being changed to prevent patients from memorising and guessing the order of letters. Revised logMAR charts, including this model, are not suitable for use in studies sponsored by the American National Eye Institute.
