External Filter for DeVilbiss VacuAide Portable Suction Machines (Pack of 12)

DeVilbiss VacuAide Portable Suction Machines represent an exceptionally compact form of medical suction, ideal for use in primary care environments and by nurses or carers in the patient's home. The External Filter (Pack of 12) is a key component which can maintain the hygiene and proper function of this device and which must be used alongside the DeVilbiss VacuAide Elbow Connection (Pack of 6) and replaced regularly.

Please note that this is a legacy component, and the Bacterial Filter for DeVilbiss VacuAide Portable Suction Machines (Pack of 12) simpler to use, does not require a separate elbow connection and is ultimately better value.

Is There a Simpler Alternative?

Yes! DeVilbiss have integrated the filter and elbow connection in the Bacterial Filter for DeVilbiss VacuAide Portable Suction Machines (Pack of 12). This alternative is compatible with all the same devices and components as using the external filter and elbow connection. We recommend this alternative since it is both easier and ultimately cheaper than using the legacy external filter.

It is also possible to transition onto the Flovac Liner System, which integrates the filter completely into the lid of the canister. This system uses fully disposable liners which are disposed of after each use for the very best levels of hygiene.

How Do These Filters Work?

These hydrophobic filters are designed to prevent fluids or bacteria from entering the internals of your suction machine. If fluid comes into contact with the filter, it will swell up and block the device. This helps to protect the practitioner and reduce the risk of cross-contamination between patients, as well as make sure the device does not become damaged or faulty.

How Often Does The Filter Need to Be Changed?

Since these filters are designed to keep bacteria from contaminating or damaging your device it is vital that you change them regularly. They should be changed in any of the following situations:

  1. If they become wet (in which case they will immediately close-up)
  2. In between patients/ when disposing of a canister
  3. Whenever they swell up and block the tube

If the device is being used for the same patient on of these tends to occur approximately every six weeks, but can vary significantly depending on use.

How Do I Change the Filter?

The filter is easy to change. Simply remove the current filter and elbow tube from the top of the canister and dispose of them. When this has been done you need to plug a new elbow connector into the canister and plug the filter in between that elbow connector and the device's suction tube.

Can I Wash the Filter?

No, the filters are hydrophobic and will swell up in contact with water. This means that attempting to wash a filter will cause it to swell up and block the pipe.

Which Suction Unit Is Compatible?

This item is designed for use with the DeVilbiss 7325 Portable Suction Unit.
