What Is SensaGel Memory Foam?
SensaGel memory foam infuses gel with memory foam to provide the ultimate level of pressure relief possible with a static mattress. This special gel-foam hybrid is located at the heel section in order to provide extra relief around one of the most high-risk areas for bedbound and immobile patients.
Why Is the Heel Section Sloped?
The heels are one of the most at-risk areas of the body when it comes to pressure sore development. In light of this, the Alerta SensaGel 4500 mattress features a gradual slope at the heel section to mitigate the risk of pressure sore-development among high-risk patients.

Some patients may accidentally roll off the side of the mattress, or get their arms caught in the siderails - both of which can cause them considerable harm. To help prevent both of these scenarios, this mattress comes with foam wedges on the sides of the bed that will catch the patient before they roll over into danger.

Yes, all components of Alerta's pressure relief products are tested to comply with BS7177: Crib 5 fire safety regulations. This means that all foam and covers for Alerta mattresses and cushions are tested to the most stringent fire safety guidelines, ensuring you stay fully compliant and up to date with regulations.
Is This Mattress Supplied with a Cover?
Yes, this pressure relief mattress comes supplied with a multi-stretch, vapour-permeable polyurethane cover. This machine washable cover ensures that patient hygiene and cleanliness is always kept to the maximum standard, which is especially important for those who are bedridden.
Washing Instructions
To wash the cover, please follow these instructions:
- Set the main wash to 65°C for no less than 10 minutes or 95°C for no less than 3 minutes
- Tumble dry on a low heat that does no exceed a temperature of 60°C
- The foam can be autoclaved at 134°C
