M+D Adjustable Forearm Crutches (Pair)

Traditional crutches leave much to be desired, and will often cause pain by putting extreme pressure on the hands, wrists and armpits – making them uncomfortable when used throughout the day. The M+D Adjustable Forearm Crutches bring some much-needed innovation to the area, distributing pressure evenly along the user's forearms and elbows to make them the most comfortable lightweight crutches on the market.

The M+D Forearm Crutches are supplied in one size to fit everyone from 4'11" - 6'8" (149 - 203cm), and are available in either Black or White. Select your desired colour using the drop-down menu above.

How Do the M+D Forearm Crutches Work?

Improving on the archaic design of standard forearm and axillary crutches, the M+D Crutches greatly improve user comfort by evenly distributing weight throughout the forearms and elbow, all but eliminating the hand, wrist and armpit pain caused by most crutches. Incorporating a lockable hinged arm cradle, flexible armbands and shock-absorbing feet, the M+D Crutches are designed to remain comfortable throughout the day, and work for you in your daily life.

The M+D Crutches are especially suited to people with conditions such as arthtitis or Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which make it very uncomfortable to use standard crutches. By distributing pressure across the forearm, pain is lessened without inhibiting movement.

Who Can Use the M+D Forearm Crutches?

These crutches can be used by virtually anyone who can use regular crutches, and even some who can't! Those who find regular crutches too painful or stressful on their wrists, hands and armpits will find these crutches much more comfortable, which increases patient compliance and makes getting around a whole lot easier.

  • Lockable Hinged Arm Support: Designed to spread the weight evenly along your arm, the arm cradle can actually be unlocked to allow for easy reaching and other arm movements throughout your day
  • Rotating Handles: With the touch of the blue button on the end of the handle, it will swing down to allow full access for things like using keys, turning handles or shaking hands
  • Shock Absorbing Feet: These feet cushion the crutch's impact with the ground, providing minimal shock to your forearms with each step

M+D Comfortable Forearm Crutches (Pair)

Will These Crutches Fit Me?

The M+D Crutches are easily adjustable to fit most users, and suit anyone from 149 - 203cm (4'11" - 6'8") in height. This allows them to fit nearly anyone, and can be adjusted to fit multiple users.

Are These Crutches Lightweight?

Yes, these crutches are very light in weight, weighing in at just 1.3kg each. This light weight allows them to be used by people of all ages and strengths, and will increase patient compliance by allowing them to be used for each and every errand throughout the day.

How Much More Comfortable Are M+D Crutches Than Standard Crutches?

M+D Crutches don't just claim to be the most comfortable crutches on the market – they've actually done the research to back it up. In a survey of crutch users who have tried the M+D Crutches to replace their regular ones, M+D found a 373% improvement in reported pain to the hands and wrists, as well as a 124% improvement in pain to the forearms and elbows and a 67% improvement to shoulder pain. These numbers speak for themselves, and demonstrate the power of this innovative design!

How Do I Set Up the M+D Crutches?

This pair of M+D Crutches is supplied with everything you need to get started right away, and all you need to complete the setup process is a coin! Watch the video below for step-by-step instructions on how to set your crutches up and ensure they are properly fitted to you for maximum comfort:

How Do I Walk with the M+D Adjustable Forearm Crutches?

Walking with the M+D Crutches is simple and intuitive, but it may take a few minutes to get used to the new crutch design. Watch the video below for a quick overview of all the functions of the M+D Crutches, as well as some useful tips to get you walking with comfortable support right away:

Practice Makes Perfect!

The M+D Crutches benefit you by taking pressure off of the stress points affected when using traditional crutches. But as you can see in the video above, this creates a new way of walking, which can take time and most importantly practice to get used to. Below are a few things to consider to make sure you get the most of M+D Crutches:

  • Watch and Learn: the videos in this listing show a range of people using the M+D Crutches. Follow their example and you'll master them in no time
  • Slow and Steady: A new way of walking will take time to get used to and that's ok! Take it slow and be patient to avoid any accidents
  • Practice, Practice, Practice: Like with most things, you improve the more you use the crutches, the key to mastering the M+D Crutches is practice
  • We're All Different: While some might be walking confidently on M+D Crutches within minutes, it could takes others days or weeks, so there's no need to panic if you don't get it right away!

Remember Your ABCs

M+D recommend simple three-step ABC method to make using their crutches easier:

  • A Shape: Create an A shaped frame by keeping you elbows tight to your sides and ensure that the feet of your crutches are wide apart to create a stable base
  • Bicep Curl: Keep your elbows tight to your side and move your crutch feet forward by doing a small Bicep curl movement
  • Core Engaged: Tighten your Core muscles to keep your elbows in and your frame stable as you move with the M+D Crutches

For more information and a visual demonstration, please see the video below:

Are These Crutches Supplied As a Pair?

Yes, the M+D Forearm Crutches are supplied as a pair: one for the left, and one for the right. The right crutch features a single braille button located on top of the right crutch's handle release button, ensuring you will be able to tell the left and right crutches apart, even if you have to get up in the dark in the middle of the night.

How Do I Adjust the M+D Crutches?

As explained in the setup video above, all adjustments to these crutches can be made with the touch of a button, or with a coin or screwdriver. The adjustments are designed to be made with a coin, making it simple to make changes to your crutches – even when you're out and about!

How Do I Rotate the Handles?

Allowing you full freedom of movement with your hands, the handles of the M+D Crutches can be easily rotated away. To rotate the handles, simply push the button on the end of each handle. At this point, the handle will become loose, and you can simply let go as the handle swivels away to leave your hand free.

How Do I Detach the Armrest?

The armrests can be allowed to swivel upwards by pressing the unlock button beside the rest. This will allow you to reach out and grab items that other forearm crutches would block. To re-lock the armrests, simply press in the button on the other side of the rest.

Are These Crutches Suitable for Hospital Use?

Yes, the M+D Forearm Crutches are ideal for hospital use, and not only because they are easier and more comfortable to use. The armrests are antimicrobial and easy to wipe down, allowing these crutches to be safely disinfected in between use by multiple patients.

Is There Anyone Who Can't Use the M+D Forearm Crutches?

While the M+D Crutches could help a huge amount of people, there are some people who they may not be suitable for, even if they are under the weight limit of 136kg (300lb) and within the recommended height range of 4'11" - 6'8" (149 - 203cm). The M+D Forearm Crutches might not be for you if any of the following apply:

Excellent Quality Product and Fantastic Service
12 February 2024  |  Kelvin

I purchased these crutches as a replacement for my current crutch as this was wearing out, but also because I now find myself needing both a left and right crutch. Having researched these crutches online I am extremely happy with the product. The crutches are very comfortable to use, feel very stable and solid and are manufactured to a very high standard. The price for a pair of these crutches was almost comparable to the price paid for my single crutch and in my opinion are vastly superior.

The service from Medical Supplies has been excellent, the item arrived in a couple of days via courier and the process was very efficiently managed.

Thank you

Innovative

I have been suffering for 18 months with Anky Spond Osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis, hardly able to walk and in daily pain. I had researched lots of different crutches on the market and then a friend found a video on you tube about the M&D ones. They are fantastic, really well designed with thought and care for the user. Super supportive. Stylish....the days of the old grey ones are over. I went to a physio the other day and she was blown away by them said she had never seen anything like them..took details and hopefully more patients will be using them soon I hope. They are brilliant. My only comment would be I have zero strength in my thumbs so the blue button to release the hand grip is a little tricky, wondering if a trigger mechanism on the front of the handle would work. But other than that thank you they are totally awesome.

M and d crutches
12 July 2022  |  Julie

I've been using different crutches for the past 7 years but was beginning to feel more strain on my joints.. The m and d crutches have changed my posture and put less strain on my shoulders. They are more supportive and i would definitely recommend them. I suffer from fibromyalgia, arthritis and hypermobility among other issues. The added bonus of the additional features are fantastic. No more fighting with crutches when I need my hands free to do things.

Delivery time was so quick and they arrived next day well packaged.

Crutch Technology Moves Forward
23 October 2021  |  J

Purchased these for my wife who has a spinal injury, both rotator cuffs in her shoulders blown, and fibromyalgia. While it's taken her a little time to get used to the weight of the new crutches, she's able to walk some distance after a little practice. One minor issue (hence 4 stars) is the area just above the elbow cup, which rubs against her arm. I dealt with this with adhesive padding but it's not ideal. I'd suggest feeding this back to the manufacturers.

Brilliant crutches!
03 September 2021  |  Heidi

I recently bought some other crutches for my recent diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and Arthritis. I struggled with my hands using these and after trailing the internet again I came across this website and forearm crutches, I bought these in hesititation but on using them for the first time I was absolutely amazed at how much less of pain I was in, these are brilliant for resting on in between walking and whilst walking with these you feel instantly supported! Really really great invention and these have given me my confidence back again. Brilliant service and delivery. Thankyou so much 👍😊

Fantastic product
14 June 2021  |  Ceri

I ordered these gutter crutches out of desperation but not really believing that would help me.
How wrong I was. I cannot recommend the crutches and the company highly enough.
I have major lower back issues along with Fibromylgia and Lupus.
I have used 1 stick for 2 years but was struggling. Tried 2 sticks but this highlighted how badly affected my left hand is and caused loads of pain.
Having spoken to my physio and OT I investigated these crutches and decided to give them ago.
They arrived within 3 days, very well packaged and with lots of well thought out information.
Took a while to get out of the packaging (cable ties are not easily cut by a disabled person) but went together easily and my partner easily made the adjustments to suit me.
I feel as though I have got my freedom back. I walked around the supermarket for the first time in 2 years and I am able to gently increase my steps without having to take heavy painkillers before and after.
I claimed back the VAT as a disabled person, which was simply a small form to complete and send.
Thank you for the time and thought put into this life changing product which enables me to stand up straight, move freely, improves my balance and doesn’t aggravate my painful hand.
