Who Can Use the Fingertip Pulse Oximeter?

The HbO-3000 Fingertip Oximeter is designed for use by medical professionals when examining patients. Reliable and easy to use, it is ideal for doctors both conducting spot checks and carrying out more thorough examinations.

What Does the HbO-3000 Oximeter Measure?

The Drive DeVilbiss HbO-3000 Oximeter is capable of taking several measurements from patients. They include the following:

  • SpO2 Levels: This allows you to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood in a reliable non-invasive manner. It features a measurement range of 35% to 100%. A normal SpO2 reading is generally considered to be 95% or above.
  • Pulse Rates: The pulse rate measurement ranges from 30 to 250 beats per minute (bpm). The normal resting heart rate of an adult is generally considered to be somewhere between 60 to 100 bpm, but other factors such as the fitness of the patient need to be taken into consideration.
  • Perfusion Index (PI): The perfusion indexing feature helps to identify the best location for signal detection. This provides an indication of the strength of the pulse, allowing you to find the best fingertip pulse level available for readings.

The HbO-3000 also displays the plethysmography waveform. This allows you to visually monitor changes in the reading.

How Do I Set Up the HbO-3000 Pulse Oximeter?

Setting up the HbO-3000 Pulse Oximeter is straightforward, allowing you to begin taking readings quickly. Once you have inserted the batteries (provided), hold the power button until the parameter setting screen appears.

You can then follow the instructions on screen to adjust the settings to your requirements. A user manual is provided, and a digital copy of this can also be found in the PDF below.

How Do I Take Measurements with the Oximeter?

To use the oximeter with a patient, it must first be placed on the end of the patient's finger, with the fingernail facing upwards. The device can then be switched on to take the readings.

If the PI is low, you may wish to test the PI on the patient's other fingers to find the finger with the highest PI value. Once the readings have been taken, note down the information, then remove the patient's finger. The device will automatically switch off after eight seconds.

How Long Will the Batteries Last?

The batteries provided with the HbO-3000 Pulse Oximeter will last for approximately 20 hours of readings. As it takes just a few seconds to check a patient's pulse and SpO2 levels, the batteries will therefore last for a considerable length of time.

How Portable Is the HbO-3000 Fingertip Oximeter?

Compact in size with overall dimensions measuring just 57 x 31.5 x 30.5mm (LxWxH), the HbO-3000 Oximeter is incredibly portable. As it includes a lanyard, you can carry it around a surgery or hospital, or take it with you on home visits, without worrying about dropping or accidentally misplacing it.

How Easy Is It to Detect Abnormal Results?

While the OLED screen is clear and easy to read, the oximeter includes an alarm setting to ensure that no low or high readings are overlooked. This audible alert provides an additional prompt to the examiner to inform of any readings that would be considered abnormal to healthy parameters.

Contraindications of the HbO-3000 Oximeter
